What Should Homeowners Do Every Spring?
March 29, 2023Should You Install Window Film?
May 9, 2023Doors and windows aren’t all made equal, and they weren’t all created for the same purposes. There are different door types, and each of these different doors can serve a different practical point for the protection of what’s inside the building. If you’ve just bought a house or moved into a new home, it’s important to know what type of doors you have. Sometimes, these doors need to be repaired or changed to the appropriate kind of door. Even if you have been living in the same house for years, storm damage can also sometimes mean that it’s time to replace that door with a more appropriate door.
Storm Door, Screen Door, Security Door: What are the Differences?
The wrong type of door installed in your home could spell disaster if you were to need the best qualities of the door type you didn’t end up choosing. Storm doors are made for withstanding a storm, for example, while a screen door only offers mild protection against bugs and wind.
What are the differences between storm doors, screen doors, and security doors, and how much of a difference can they really make to the rest of your house?
Storm Door
Storm doors are common in houses found anywhere in the United States where tornadoes, hurricanes, and massive thunderstorms are a common sight. A storm door is meant to provide at least a minimal amount of protection against the elements. While storm doors are not the strongest door on the market, a storm door could be a lifesaving difference.
Storm doors are made to be stronger, and they can take at least a minor beating from debris that might fly around in the event of a storm. Storm doors come with strong locks, though they are built to withstand a storm and not the average robbery.
Do I need a storm door?
Not everyone needs a storm door in their home, and not everyone thinks twice about having their doors replaced. Should you live in an area of the United States that’s more prone to getting storm coverage and rough weather than others, a storm door just might be the right choice for you.
Screen Door
Screen doors are basic doors that provide only a barrier between the inhabitants and the outside, often with the bulk of the door covered in a mesh frame or screen so that your visibility isn’t limited when looking outside. These types of doors are common in houses with nice views, however, they are also found in homes where bug infestations are more common.
A screen door provides the minimum level of protection against the elements and intruders. It is important to note that screen doors aren’t made to be as strong as storm doors or modern security doors.
Still, don’t count screen doors out until you’ve had a proper look at what’s out there.
Screen doors can still be worth it, especially if you’d like to enjoy more of the view (and more often) while still having a basic level of protection between you and everything else out there.
Do I need a screen door?
Sometimes, the answer is yes! Older screen doors should ideally be replaced with newer ones if you like having a screen door. A lot can be said for the quality and safety of modern locks when they’re compared to older locks.
Security Door
Security doors are a popular household option because of their strength, and the focus on safety.
These types of doors are meant to be stronger than the average door. In fact, some security doors have the ability to lock upon impact. If you ever see a threat approaching your way, security doors could mean that few-second difference to your safety.
Compared to screen doors, security doors have been designed for occupant safety.
Modern security doors have improved locks, which makes them even harder to gain access to for the average criminal than older security doors.
Do I need a security door?
The average crime rate in most neighborhoods is going up, and not down. Security doors can be an important installation to your house if you would like to make sure your home and its contents are safe from intruders, especially if your current doors aren’t as safe as they could be.
